Artbreeder x Xander Smith Design

One of the things I am most excited about right now is how AI and generative deep-learning is going to be a positive transformative force for artists, designers, and content creators, elevating what’s possible in design and animation.

Artbreeder is one of my favorite AI tools for artists. I’ve been having a blast using it in my concept art on productions this year, and I’m excited to share some of the personal work I’ve been doing with its developers.

Artbreeder is a Generative Adversarial Network (a GAN), that works with the artist, complimenting their skills, and allowing them to design just as fast as their imagination.

The character in this fashion illustration’s journey started with hundreds of sketches of her face from Artbreeder, generated in minutes, exploring everything from different ethnicities, hairstyles, colors, shapes, personalities, expressions, and more.

It gave me a new degree of creative liberty- and development has only just started. AI tools are very new, and I can’t wait to see all the game changing ways they will enhance artist’s creativity.
